Still Covid Weary

Arguments. Fights. Yelling. Disagreements. They seem to be getting more common in our world.

Many things divide people. Some believe race brings separation. Others think financial status induces it. Individuals feel more individualistic after spending so much time disjoined from others resulting in loneliness to a great extent. Language barriers cause disconnection also.

Though at times it does seem the inhabitants of the world are separated, there is something that unfortunately unites us.

As some locations begin to open, many of us are still Covid weary.

Not everyone handles this challenge in the same way.

Some friends I’ve spoken with have said they simply want to stay home and hide from all the changes. Another acquaintance told me she makes sure to get outside even in inclement weather. A woman I know through social media shared that she has wasted a lot of time binge-watching so she didn’t have to deal with the stress of the rapidly changing world. I spent a lot of time baking during 2020 … it’s what I do when I’m processing thoughts and working through frustrations.

A dear friend gave one of the best responses I’ve heard, “I have to live in today and whatever is before me.”

This is Matthew 6:34 played out in real life.

She can’t change her situation. None of us can.

She is Covid weary like so many of us are.

But she’s made a choice to focus on the day that God has set before her.

In the array of details clouding a person’s mind on any given day, we each could come to the place of believing how we handle a situation or make decisions is one-hundred percent correct.

Except we’re all unique. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all response to any situation.

In our distinctiveness, there is something we can all use a little, or a lot, more of:

Grace

-to deal with decisions personally before God

-to have moments or days of meltdowns and be okay with them

-to share our burdens without judgment

-to express fear and discover a heart of understanding

Numerous changes have confronted us over the past too many months. We’ve ridden or succumbed to the tidal wave in varying ways.

If your head has lifted above the flood which accompanied the weariness, could you

-offer a whisper of hope to someone still struggling

-share an encouraging idea to help the listener choose courage

-proffer words of strength to a tired friend

-give a few moments to pray with a weary acquaintance

-listen to the heart of someone who hasn’t yet broken through the flood of emotions.

Grace is such an amazing gift given to us through God’s love and Christ’s sacrifice. It costs us so much less than it did Him.

How could we give any less?

Is there someone you could offer one of these gifts to today?

“He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.” 2 Timothy 1:9 Holman Christian Standard Bible
